![]() According to a report, 43% of India’s working population is anxious, depressed or isolated. Now that’s a whopping number if you break it down. It means almost 4 out of 10 people are feeling some form of anxiety, depression or a mental health issue. I searched in google for “How to improve mental health”. The top results were
In themselves, they are great tips, but here is the problem - they are too vague. For someone going through anxiety or depression, asking them to try to relax is like asking someone with a migraine to try to not feel pain, try to relax. It doesn’t work like that. This is where we need specific techniques and tools to help you find ways to reduce stress, deal with difficult emotions and situations at home and work, a technique that’s easy, doable, doesn’t require you to ingest chemicals and helps create a sense of calm and peace. EFT (emotional freedom technique), also known as Tapping, is emerging as a powerful technique to help with improving mental health and relaxation. It is coming up as a powerful alternative to psychological counselling and many other stress relief techniques. EFT combines the wisdom of Acupuncture and modern psychology. It involves not just talking about your issue but also stimulating certain energy meridians in the body on face and hands to release the stuck emotions and energy.
According to studies published in National Library of Medicine, the original study by Dr. Church et al. indicated the EFT group showed statistically significant improvements in anxiety (-58.34%), depression (-49.33%), overall severity of symptoms (-50.5%). The group also experienced a significant decrease in stress hormone cortisol (-43.24%). It is time we explored beyond the Newtonian system of medicine which separates every part of body and looks at it individually and move towards a more quantum approach which talks about the body as a whole, the energy system that affects the body and mind and how to correct it, nourish it and get in sync for a healthier and wholesome existence. Mental health problems are a symptom, not the problem. Its the branches of a core issue that is not being addressed at all. We are taught history, geography, maths and science in schools and education. But no where are we taught how to live life, handle difficulties, what to do when you feel stuff, how to let go, forgive, what kind of perspectives can help us have a beautiful life. I don’t see EFT as just a tool for improving mental health. It is in fact a tool to learn how to live well, how to see the world from a better perspective. As Dr.Bruce Lipton says, its not your genes that are a deciding factor, its your environment that turns those genes on or off. More specifically, your perspective of your environment. And perspective is something you CAN change. Its not easy often. We are deeply trained in how to see the world and experience it. But EFT can be a powerful tool to shift that perspective easily and surprisingly fast. To know more about EFT, click here. |
